Overcome
your ‘former you’
“Therefore
we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up
from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in
newness of life.” Romans 6:4

s a born a new person in Jesus, you have been buried
with Jesus into death and resurrected with a new life in Him. The former you
has been buried, and that former you isn’t you anymore because you are now a
changed person in Christ.
The scripture alluded that ‘former you’ as the ‘old
man’ walking in the path of death. The former you has no life of Christ within.
That ‘former you’ has no power over sin and death. All glory to Jesus who has given you and I
that new life to live above sin and death.
Romans 6:6 “Knowing
this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be
destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin”
Should
you live some part of your ‘former you’?
No! As child of God you need not to keep some trait
of your ‘former you’ that you know is associated with the flesh. Paul once said
the things He detests doing He finds Himself doing. That was some trait of His
old man in Him. He strived to overcome this trait of the old man still
manifesting in Him. Have you ever noticed some bad character you see in yourself
that you used to exhibit before you got born again? Forsake all and pray that
God helps you to overcome them.
Romans 6:1-2 “What
shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid.
How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?”
Dear reader, I am sure you have been blessed by the
word today. Strive to walk in the newness of Life you received from Jesus. Pray
and overcome all traits of the ‘former you’ still manifesting in your life.
Conclusion:
Christ has nailed and buried the old man in you on the cross. You have been
raised with Him to have a new life. Strive to walk in the newness of life in
Jesus by overcoming all traits of the old man in you.
