His word is life

He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. Psalms 107:20

 Bible passage: Mathew 8:5-10

The word of God is life, in the beginning, God used His word to create everything we can see today. Things that seem not to have existed He brought them to life by His word.

In everything God does, His word was with Him and His word was always sent to bring to life whatsoever He wish to create.

John 1:1 says

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

 The word of God is indispensable to God and vice versa; because the word is God. Jesus is the word, it is not surprising when Bible says;

Colossians 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:”

All things were given life by the word of God.

Our existence is of the word of God, our strength, peace, and health are signs that the word is sustaining us. When we experience sickness, the first thing that should come to our mind is the word of God before any medication; Psalm 107:20. We were made by God’s word. If we are sick then our body needs a repair through His word.

In conclusion, the word of God is life, and everything we see all came from the word. If anything is dead in us let’s bring it back to life by the word of God.

You are righteous through your faith in Christ

But to the one who does not work (that is, the one who does not try to earn his salvation by doing good), but believes and completely trusts in Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited to him as righteousness (right standing with God) (Romans 4:5 AMP)

Bible passage: Romans 4: 1-25

What keeps a person righteous is His faith in Jesus and not by His works or how He has been keeping the law. The works of a person is limited to the extent of making Him righteous in God’s presence; only His faith in Christ can make Him completely righteous in God’s presence.

Man’s good doings or righteousness is not a quantifier to making it to the kingdom of God, that is; God doesn’t qualify a man righteous by the good works he has done in respect to his bad works, but He qualifies a man based on the faith He has in Him.   A perfect Biblical case study is the theif at the right hand of Jesus during His crucification on the cross; He believed Jesus is the son of God. This faith he had in Christ Jesus was counted unto him as righteousness, which made Him qualified for the kingdom of God.

You need to hold on to your faith in Christ, no matter how things may seem impossible keep believing in God, It is only through your faith in Him you can please Him. (Hebrews 11:6)

Abraham was able to please God because he had faith in Him even when He was yet to receive the promises God had with Him.

Devotional Prayer: Father thank you for your word today. Lord Jesus help me to believe in you and help me grow in faith

Only your righteousness matters, not the doctrine.

“Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the Sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath, and are blameless?” (Matthew 12:5 KJV)

Bible passage: Matthew 12: 1-8

God is concerned with the virtue and purity of your being, not the doctrine you received. It is imperative that you take your righteousness sincerely. The scripture stated that without righteousness and holiness in your heart, no man will perceive God.

“Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14 KJV)

The scripture emphasised holiness as a means to perceive God through your own lenses and not through the doctrine you received as a Christian. Through the Bible passage above, the Pharisees exalt their doctrine rather than their righteousness. Jesus knew that they were hypocrites – they were extremely religious but lacked righteousness within them. Jesus said this in Mathew 5: 20:

“For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.”

The Pharisees in the Bible verse above also represent the preachers and the Christian rulers who were extremely religious but sinful. The statement by Jesus in Matthew 5:20 implies that it is only when your righteousness extends beyond the words of these religious preachers that you will be ready for the Kingdom of God.

Consider your righteousness with more importance than the doctrine you have been endowed with. Don’t be like the Pharisees who are well-versed in the word of God but lack holiness in their hearts.

Devotional Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for your word today. Father, help me be righteous.

 If you lack wisdom, ask!

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. James 1:5

The Bible has alluded wisdom to be the principal of all things. In other words, you can only achieve great things in this world by the wisdom of the living God.

You may be surprised why king Solomon requested wisdom instead of money or influence. He knew something births these good things which is God’s wisdom and He asked for it.

The scripture made it known that if you lack wisdom, you can ask God in faith. The scripture testifies that God gives wisdom to men liberally.

James 1:5 “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”

Have you wonder about the great achievements and ideas implemented by great men in the likes of businesses, science, technology, and many more inventions. This great wisdom comes from God. None of these achievements were achieved by them without God's gifting.

The scriptures says in John 3:27;

A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.

You can’t have God's wisdom except God bestows it on you. It is more important to ask Him for wisdom that will birth all your needs rather than asking Him of your needs. Man’s needs have no end, why not crave for the wisdom that will bring all your needs. If King Solomon had asked for influence or wealth God would have gifted him these things, but he rather asked for wisdom that can give him everything he needs.

Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding

Prayer: Father bestow unto me wisdom in every area of my life that lacks wisdom.

 Put away your idols

For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. Exodus 34:14

If you have honored anything whatsoever above God, you have an idol. It could be your job, money, or your pastor anybody whatsoever you meet first or consider more important before God, you have idolized such a one.

God gave us a commandment that we shall not have any other god except him alone. To have a god is not limited to worshiping a crafted image. You could have an idol and you may be unaware of it.

The Bible gave us so many accounts where God neglected the children of Israel when they had other gods they worship. They will pray to God but God will not answer their prayers until they had to forsake their strange gods.  1 Samuel 7:4-11.

What have you have honored than God, let go of them today, remember our God is jealous. The Bible have given us an evidence that having an idol can hinder God from answering our prayers.

Prayer: Lord Jesus help me to let go off every thing that I have idolized in my heart in Jesus Name.

 Meet Jesus for rest today

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

We all at one point in our life had burdens we can’t share with people around us. These burdens will not make one have rest if they are not lifted from one’s life.

Jesus said in John 14:1, that we should give no room for any burdens in our hearts and believe in God and in Him. The first question is this, how many of how burdens have we told to God first before meeting people for help?

John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me

Humans are limited in a way they can lift burdens from our lives. Only God can lift all burdens and give us rest.

Don’t wait until people fail to lift your burdens before you consider Christ as the one who can give you rest. He said this in Matthew 11:28;

Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

He never said when men have failed you, rather when you are burdened, you should meet him for a rest.

Christ cares for you and he is the ultimate source of rest and peace of mind. I know you have been touched by his word today. Take all your burdens to Jesus today and He will lift them for you.

1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you

Prayer: Father helps me lift every burden that troubles my heart in Jesus' name Amen.

Be willing to forget your past!

Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Isaiah 43:18

Even when God has forgiven you, are you willing to forgive yourself and let go of your past?

Many when they have become born-again Christians or have rededicated their lives still remember their past and regret how they got into such things. When you remember your past and keep regretting, you are inviting the Devil to torment your soul; when you pray or render any services to God the Devil reminds you of your past you failed to forget. The scripture has warned us that we should let go of our past. If you have given your life to Christ or rededicated it, no matter how terrible your past may be, forget it as if it never happened because you are now a new creature by the cleansing of your sins through the blood of Jesus.

Isaiah 43:18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new

Dear reader I believe you have been blessed by God’s word this morning. Are you still remembering your past? Let it go today focus on where Christ is taking you. For anyone born again or has rededicated his life to Jesus, His pasts are forgotten.

Prayer: Father thank you for your word today, Lord Jesus help me let go of every past that I still regret of in Jesus Christ Name amen.

 Never give up on prayer

Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17

There are times when we pray, it either seems God has not heard or our requests are yet to be granted to us. Most Christians feel weary when their requests are delayed while some give up on prayer.

One thing is that God answers prayers, however, His time and ways are different from that of humans.

There was a time when the Israelites entreated God to know if they can go for a war, praying for God's support, God told them to go. They went for the battle but they failed. The Israelites never gave up, they prayed again asking for God's counsel, they went for the battle and failed the second time, they prayed again for the third time and ask for God’s counsel; It was this time God fought their battle and handed over the victory to them (Judges 20:18-35).

Sometimes when our requests seem delayed; we pass through some phases that help build our faith and make us stronger. The Israelites have been going for the battle and failing, until the third time God made them harnessed a new strategy to fight their battle, they never approach their battle the same way they did for their first and second battle.

Dear reader, I believed you have been blessed by God’s word today. Don’t be weary or tired, God will answer your prayers just believe and know that amidst phases of unanswered prayer  you can grow more in faith and get stronger in prayers.

Prayer: Father let me never cease from praying no matter the circumstances in Jesus Christ's name amen.

Know the difference between the voices

God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God (Psalms 62:11).

You need to know the difference between the voice of God and the Devil. Just as God usually speaks to man especially a born a new person same as the Devil. If the Devil can speak to our Lord Jesus by tempting Him How much more we, His followers.

Many may have misconstrued the voice of the Devil for the voice of God. There are differences between the voice of God and of the Devil. The Bible has helped us to know this difference and has given us a blueprint to know when God speaks.

God speaks once and not repeatedly. Evidence of this is found in Psalms 62:11.

God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God

The voice of God doesn't disturb or forces man to do His will. God speak and give us a choice to take. God will not force His will or opinion on any man, no He will not (Genesis 6:3).

The Devil on the other hand speaks repeatedly and not once. He often finds a way to force His will on you until you fall as His prey. It takes the word of God to overcome Him when He speaks, however it is expedient you know when the Devil speaks and when God speaks. Biblical illustration of how the Devil speaks

are;

• the Devil forces His opinion or His will on you until you fall as His prey (Genesis 3:1-7).

• the Devil speaks repeatedly to force His will on you. An example is when He came tempting Jesus with various means until He was subdued by the word of God (Matthew 4: 3-10).

Every Christian needs to be able to differentiate between the voice of God and the Devil.

Dear beloved, I believe you have been blessed this morning.

Know the difference between the voices of God and of the Devil and I pray the Holy Spirit will help you to discern between the voices in Jesus Christ Name.

Prayer and Fasting builds your faith

Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. Matthew 17:21

The Bible says that faith comes by hearing and hearing from God’s word. But hearing of the word alone can’t take the role of prayer and fasting in a believer’s life. Without prayer and fasting, hearing from God’s word alone can’t make you grow up in faith.

The Disciples of Jesus had been with Him for long and consistently hearing the word from Him, they were familiar with His word. But they still lack faith! Mathew 17:19-20.

You may be familiar with God’s word by your commitment to studying the Bible, but if you don’t pray or fast, you have no faith in you.

In Matthew 17:14-21, the Bible tells us a story of man who had a mad son. He brought the boy to the Disciples for healing, but they were unable to cure the boy. They may have quoted the word of God but they don’t have faith. They lack fasting and prayer which will build their faith to work miracles.

And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.” Mathew 17:20-21

Dear reader, hearing from God’s word can’t take the role of prayer and fasting in your life. Live a life of balance by reading the scripture and by fasting with prayers so that your faith may come alive.

Prayer: Thank you for your word today Lord. Father help me to grow in faith by hearing your word with prayers and fasting.

No discrimination to whom should be saved!

They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Mark 2:17

The principal reason why Jesus came to this world was to die for our sins. He came to bear our burden of which may be a penalty of our transgressions. The Bible says while we were yet sinners (not born again) He had loved us and has sent His son to die for us.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”

In other words, God doesn’t hate sinners, however, He hates sin.

Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

Christ never came to reject sinners but to rebuke sin. When the Pharisees saw Jesus eating and dining with sinners they scolded Him. If Christ consistently isolates Himself from them, how would they be saved? Let us make Christ our role model. What a believer should do is by sharing the gospel and not following their worldly ways. There’s no discrimination to whom should receive Christ or to who will be saved.

Dear reader, I believe you have been blessed by God’s word today. There is no discrimination to who must receive the gospel, everyone on earth is entitled to have Christ.

Devotional prayer:

Father I thank you for your word today. Lord please help me to win souls irrespective of who they are or what they do in Jesus Name.

 Just Obey II

The LORD shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow. Deuteronomy 28:12

There is a reward to obey God’s word. The reward is that you will experience God’s grace in everything you do. You may be surprised how the children of Israel could have defeated numerous nations which are far more than them by population and by their mighty warriors. What made them great and victorious was their obedience to God. They never passed through protocols they broke protocols.

Obedience to God will ease you from unnecessary prayer or challenges; because you did the right thing by obeying God, you will not suffer the consequences of disobedience.

1 Samuel 15:22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

Dear reader I believe you have been blessed this morning by God’s word. To obey is deemed more better than sacrifices! Obey God in everything He tells you to do and the blessings in Deuteronomy 28:12 will be yours.

Devotional Prayer: Father thank you for another wonderful day to hear your word. Help me to obey you at all cost in Jesus' Name.

 Don’t forget your God

But cleave unto the LORD your God, as ye have done unto this day. Joshua 23:8

Many may have found themselves lost from the presence of God. They may have had a broken relationship they used to share with Him. One thing a believer will do wrong is to forget God when things turn around; either good or bad.

Through the phases of a turnaround, some people have forgotten their source [God] because of the merry and enjoyment of this world. While some because of their bad times have forsaken God to look for alternative ways contrary to the will of God.

Being far away from God creates vulnerability to the enemy attacks. Keep close relationship with God no matter what you have achieved or lost.

Dear reader, I know you have been blessed by His word this morning. Do not forget God no matter the situations or achievements.

Devotional prayer: Father I thank you for your word today. Lord in any way have forgotten you, have mercy on me and help me to be closer to you again in Jesus Name.

 Just obey

And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: Deuteronomy 28:1 KJV

Generally, we may have considered obeying every word of God as somethinhard to do. Most especially the principles of God are significantly different from humans and if you decided to obey God’s word by seeing His word in human principles. It will be difficult for you to do.

Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.

His ways aren’t our ways and neither are His thoughts are ours.

The secret to perfect obedience is faith. Faith is a seed that will drive you to obey God without any form of Compromise. Having faith is you not seeing God's word in human ways but His ways. The Bible says that without it, it is impossible to please God in other words it will be impossible to obey Him.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith, it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

It will be impossible for Abraham to obey God if He never had faith in Him. Even when God told Him to sacrifice His son, he never hesitated to obey because He believes even if God takes His son He can give Him another one.

There are many blessings to the obedience of God’s word. An outstanding blessing was the one God had with Abraham just because He obeyed Him.

Dear reader I believe you have been blessed by God’s word. Just obey Him and you will enjoy the blessings attached to it.

Devotional prayer: Father I thank you for your word today, build my faith to obey you in Jesus Christ Name.

Don’t be afraid to take a step!

Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. Deuteronomy 31:6

Every person will take a step at one phase of their lives; whether it is easy or difficult to achieve, a step will be required of them to take to move to a new dimension.

There’s a key factor that the Devil uses to scare away people of God from taking a step, and this key factor is fear. Fear if harbored in one's life will make such a one fearful from pressing forward to the next step. In Deuteronomy 31:6, Moses knew that fear could keep the children of Israel from pressing forward to the next phase, he had to tell them to be courageous and be conscious of God’s presence. He also reminded them of testimonies of how God used them to defeat the kings of Amorites, Sihon, and Og; and will not be hard for him to defeat other nations.

In Deuteronomy 31:4-6, the Bible made known that testimonies can be use to conquer fears trying to stop you from taking a step. Another example was David who used His testimonies on the victory he had over the lion and the bear which came attacking, to conquer the fear of Goliath. David needed to take a step, however he needed to defeat fear at first to be able to face Goliath.

Dear readers, I believe you have been blessed by God’s word today. Give no chance to fear, always remember steps God helped you to take that seemed impossible for you to do, same God can help you take greater steps. Give no room for fear.

Devotional prayer: Father make me courageous and help me to overcome every fears of my life in Jesus Name amen.

The Power of your Praise

Praise ye the Lord, Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power: Psalm 150:1 KJV

T

here is something unique about praise; it shows that you are reverencing His mighty works and that there is no one greater than him. Psalm 150:2.

Praises to God are significantly different from prayers while prayers are requests sent to God, praises are used to exalt the mighty hands of God. The scripture says that praises are pleasant to Him; in other words God enjoys listening to your praises Psalm 135:3.

Praises can be used to bring the attention of God quicker than prayers, because He is delighted to see you praise Him. It is very important that you know the power of praise and how your praise will bring the presence of God.

You can also praise Him for the mighty works He did in your life. Such praise will provoke Him to do greater things in your life Psalm 150:2.

Dear reader, I believe you are blessed this morning and I pray that the power of your praise will shake heavens in Jesus name.

Devotional Prayer: Father help me to reverence and praise you more than I have ever done in Jesus name.

The Holy-Spirit and the Joy of salvation

Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Psalms 51:12

There’s an exceptional joy in the life of anyone that has received the Holy-spirit. One of His signs is that you have the consistent joy of your salvation, you are enthusiastic for the things about God and His  Kingdom; studying His word, praying, communing with Him, winning of souls, and the likes.

The Holy Spirit stands as evidence that you are a saved soul and also a testimony so that others who are yet to see God’s light are touched by Him because of your testimony.

The Holy Spirit detests sin, and will not continue to stay in the life of anyone involved in iniquity because He is Holy. The moment He leaves you, you will not have the joy of salvation, it will be somewhat of you not saved. When a person is involved in iniquity, He will not have anything to boast of His salvation and His passion for God begins to decrease to a time He never knew God; if He didn’t repent of His sins.

You are to guard the spirit of God in you by fleeing from sin. Everyone that has enjoyed the joy of salvation will not be willing to lose it. The psalmist said this;

Psalms 51:11-12 “Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.Psalms 51:12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.”

The psalmist knew that when the Spirit of God leaves, the joy of salvation will be missing.

Dear reading, God bless you for reading today’s devotional and I believe you are blessed. Guard the Holy Spirit so that you will keep having the constant joy of your salvation.

Devotional Prayer: Father thank you for your words this morning. Help me Lord not to lose the joy of my salvation in Jesus' name.
