Don’t curse the name of God when in sorrow

“ And it was so, that after the Lord had spoken these words unto Job, the Lord said to Eliphaz and Temanite, My wrath is Kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant job hath.”  Job 42:7 KJV

I

t is common among Christians to question and talk to God in a harsh way when they are passing through tough situations.  You should be aware that whatsoever you may be passing through, it is a test to show how faithful you are to God; and it could also be a test to build your maturity in Christ Jesus.

Abraham for instance, would not have passed His test of faith if He had cursed the name God after He instructed Him to sacrifice His son. Abraham was promised by God that His generations will be many as the stars in the sky and as the dust on the ground. He never gave it a thought to call God a liar or call Him God that lack’s integrity.

Our case study of today’s devotional is Job, Job passed through one of the toughest situation anyone could have thought of; amidst His tribulations, His friends and wife disserted Him, after He refused to curse the name of God. Job kept on honouring God, even when He cursed the day He was born, He never call the name or question Him wrongly.

Dear reader, I believe you have been blessed by God’s word today. Start everyday by honouring God’s name in every situation you find yourself.

Devotional prayer: Lord Jesus, help me Honour you in every situation that I may find myself in Jesus Christ name, amen.

One body in Christ for same purpose

But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. 1 Corinthians 12:11

According to the dispensation of God’s grace everyone in Christ have a role to play. Through this dispensation of His grace, He has bestowed to us unction from above to advance the gospel and bring many to His light.

Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.” Ephesians 4:8

He has bestowed every one of us a gift to edify the church, advance the kingdom, and bring many to His light.

It is very important to be aware that we are one body in Christ even though it seems we are many members with different roles in the Church, but we are to press on and work together to achieve this same purpose of the kingdom advancement. All parts of this body of Christ are indispensable to one another. The Bible made an illustration in 1 Corinthians 12:12

“Your body has many parts—limbs, organs, cells—but no matter how many parts you can name, you’re still one body. It’s exactly the same with Christ” MSG

This illustration is to tell you that every child of God with different gifts and roles is one body in Christ in pursuit of the same purpose. It is expedient that you don’t see your role or others independent, but as a goal that every Christian with different kinds of gifts and roles come together to fulfill the same purpose.

Dear reader I believe you have been blessed this morning. Let your role in the body of Christ advance the gospel. We are one body pressing on to fulfilling the same purpose.

Prayer: Father help me to be able to harness my gift in advancing the kingdom and for your glory in Jesus' Name.

If you love God, you will be known by Him

But if any man love God, the same is known of him. 1Corinthians 8:3

Many claim they love God but are not showing it by their deeds. The love for God is beyond just a proclamation but it’s rather what must be put to practice. The scripture says if anyone loves God, such a one is known of Him. If God instructs you to do something and you don’t feel reluctant and you do it willingly, you are a true follower of Him and recognized by Him. Jesus said this in John 10:27

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:”

Jesus said here that if anyone follows His teachings such a one is known of Him.

The love for God supersedes everything; when you love Him so heartedly it will be difficult for you to go against His commandments. His will will be your utmost priority.

To show that you love God, you have to put into practice everything He tells you to do no matter how hard it seems to be, whenever He speaks, listen and do what He says you should do then you will be recognized as His child

Dear reader I trust you have been blessed this morning. Love God with all your soul and put to practice everything He tells you to do.

Prayer: Father I thank you for your word this morning. Father help me to love you more than I have ever loved you in Jesus' Name.

 Help others in the faith

Those of us who are strong and able in the faith need to step in and lend a hand to those who falter, and not just do what is most convenient for us. Romans 15:1 MSG

If you have attained a high level of faith you need to build others who are babes in the faith. If a babe in faith gets weak in faith, He will need someone stronger than Him to uphold Him up again.

In Romans 15:1, Paul addressed people who are strong in faith but are self-centered and not concerned about building others who are still struggling to build themselves in the faith.

Every believers need to help others who are yet to reach their level of faith.

Dear reader, I believe you have been blessed this morning. Let your salvation and faith help others grow in faith. Irrespective of your level of faith, there are still people who are yet to reach your level; give a helping hand to them.

Prayer: Lord Jesus give me the grace to help others grow in faith, amen.

 The good Shepherd

I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. John 10:11

One thing about a Shepherd is that He leads His sheep rightly and He watches over them, but He can’t sacrifice His life for His sheep when  He sees a beast coming to attack the sheep. Jesus is uniquely different and that is the reason why He is the good shepherd. He is one that sacrificed His life for the world just to be saved.

Christians are akin to a sheep that is guided by a good shepherd, Jesus. One thing a sheep will do is to listen and follow His Shepherd always to avert danger. Jesus said in John 10:9 that He is the door and that whosoever enters in will be saved. In other words, whosoever listens to His instructions and follows Him will be saved and will not be trapped as a prey.

Dear reader, I believe you have been blessed this morning. Are you a follower of Christ? If yes, are you following His words, and do you hear from Him? Hearing from Him and following His words is the only way you can be saved from evil and be at peace with Him.

Prayer: Father I thank you for your word today. Holy Spirit speak to me continually, guide, and be my Shepherd in all journeys of my life.

It is dangerous to rebel and grumble against God

Just don’t rebel against God! Numbers 14:9 MSG

Grumbling always to God is a kind of rebel against Him. He is displeased to see you complaining always. In many cases, people who complain often don’t remember to thank God for the good and wonderful things He had done in the past, they tend to focus on what He is yet to do in their lives. A delayed promise that hasn’t happened doesn’t mean God has forgotten His promise, He just needs you to trust Him. The Israelites failed in trusting Him for the promises He made with them; that He will take them to a land flowing with milk and Honey. They grumbled to the extent that they forgot the great and mighty things God did at the Red Sea.

Numbers 14:11-12 “God said to Moses, “How long will these people treat me like dirt? How long refuse to trust me? And with all these signs I’ve done among them! I’ve had enough—I’m going to hit them with a plague and kill them.” MSG

Because the camp of Israel grumbled and rebelled against God, they suffered in the wilderness and died after 40-years of pain except Joshua and Caleb and their generation were able to witness the promised land.

What is that thing you want from God? If He is yet to do it, stop complaining and keep trusting Him. Have a big belief that He will fulfill what He has promised to do in your life. If you keep complaining, you are extending the time you will receive God’s promise in your life.

Dear reader, I believe you are blessed this morning. Grumbling is dangerous and will not solve anything, it is better to believe and pray than to grumble.

Prayer: Father help me never to grumble against you, help me have consistent trust in you in Jesus' Name amen.

Do you have the things of the world in you?

Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me. John 14:30

One self assessment every child of God need to do is to ask Him/Her self If He/She has any thing associated with the world. The Bible had always referred the Devil as the prince of world. The word “world” as described by the Bible in this context is the ways and patterns in which, people are practicing but is contrary to the principle and wills of God. The Devil is one that deceives many to follow the patterns of the world, and as many that follow this pattern have a connection with Him.

The scripture said that if anyone loves the world, the love of God is not in Him. 1John 2:15

From the text of today’s devotional, John 14:30. Jesus was proud to say He has nothing to do with the Devil, that He came and found nothing in Him. Every Christians need to get to this stage of having big confidence that they don’t have anything associated with the prince of this world.

Dear reader, I trust you have been blessed this morning. Have nothing to do with the world or things of the world, remember the Devil which is the prince of this world is an accuser of the brethren; whatever of His things He finds in you, you will be accused of.

Prayer: Father thank you for your word today. Father help me to put away anything in me that is associated with the world.

Tell Him to reveal everything to you

But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. 1 John 2:20

The Holy Spirit is a friend that will reveal hidden secrets to you. The scripture also refers to Him as the spirit of truth; meaning that where things look real, however, it isn’t, the Holy Spirit will reveal it to you. If Paul didn’t have the Holy Spirit It would have been impossible for Him to discern if the damsel is having the spirit of God or the Devil. Act 16:17-18.

We are the last days as prophesied in the Bible, where many will manifest as if they were ministers of God whereas they aren’t. It takes the spirit of truth “Holy-spirit” to filter the wolves among the sheep. If you don’t hear from Him, it will be dangerous for you. This is the reason why you need to keep asking Him to reveal things to you and to unravel mysteries to you.

Dear reader, I believe you have been blessed this morning. Always ask the Holy-Spirit to reveal all things to you, and believe in Him, you will know everything you needed to know.

Prayer: Father, I thank you for your word this morning. Holy-spirit I pray you to reveal all things to me in Jesus' name Amen.

Love Jesus and have a home with the trinity

Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” John 14:23 NIV

Many often say they love Jesus, but they are not following His teachings. To know if a child loves His parent is when the child listens and does whatever His parent tells Him to do.

God is our Heavenly Father, and He expects us to listen and put His teachings to practice. He wants us to have a strong intimacy with Him of which can be achieved if we study His word thoroughly and worship Him in Spirit.

Many believers that don’t have a strong intimacy with God don’t love Him and are not dwelling with Him.

The scripture made it known that Believers who don’t follow the teachings of the word are “Homeless”; they don’t have a Home with the trinity; God the Father, Son, and the Holy-Spirit. Jesus said in John 14:23;

“Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.”

From this text, it’s evident that those who love and have a strong intimacy with God will have a Home with the trinity.

An awesome instance of this can be found in Genesis 18. When the trinity appeared and came to visit Abraham. They had a home with Abraham that day just because Abraham is a friend of God.

You can have a Home with the trinity if only you have a strong intimacy with Christ; by studying His word thoroughly to get familiar with Him, by praying and worshiping Him in spirit.

Dear reader, I believe God has spoken to you this morning. Do you want to have a Home with the trinity? Build a strong intimacy with Christ today and follow His teachings.

Prayer: Father I thank you for your word this morning, Lord Jesus help me build strong intimacy with you and come and make a home with me.

Don’t focus on the pain but the reward ahead!

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. James 1:12

To endure several temptations is one challenging part of a believer. It will reveal how faithful you are to God.

The scripture tells us to count it all joy when we fall into divers temptations. Certainly, many would not be joyful when they passed through trials, but the scripture says we should count it all joy because there is a reward ahead of us. Christ also faced this challenge of enduring trials of His faith. He had wished the trials and suffering to stop. If however, God put those trials and pains He ought to have away, He would not be rewarded and even the world wouldn’t be saved from their sins.

Because Jesus endured the pain to death, He was highly rewarded.

Philippians 2:8-9 “And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name

Jesus is our role model. If He can pay the price of endurance to the end, you can also do it. Amidst the phase of temptations, believers tend to worry about how they will overcome their trials, forgotten when the scripture said; “He that endures to the end shall be saved.”

You should be aware that every temptations and challenge are transient. The challenges are meant for you to overcome them so you can be promoted; to know if you are worthy enough to receive the prize at the end. Paul said this in

1 Corinthians 9:24;

Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.”

The race in this context connotes your pains, endurance, and sufferings when you are betwixt temptations. We all are in a race here on earth, only those that ran well will be rewarded on the last day. Don’t give up keep pressing on.

Dear reader, I believe you have been blessed this morning. Are you tired of enduring that pain or tired of waiting to get something from the lord, the scripture says you should count it all joy when you are faced with these challenges? Your problem is temporal; endure to the end, there’s a prize for you.

Prayer: Father, help me to run the race well in Jesus' name.

Have no confidence in sin

For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh. Philippians 3:3 NIV

One thing you should be careful about is boasting of your past, sinful ways or something you love doing that is contrary to Christ. You may have been involved in some evil things before you got born again. As far as you are now new in Christ don’t boast of your past anymore. For instance, before you got born again, you were a person that is used to getting angry to the extent of fighting those that make you flare-up. If people flare you up again and you still repeat what you do in the past, you are boasting of the flesh (sin).

Let your confidence be in Jesus. Let your situation be as if it were experienced by Christ. If you assume Jesus to be in your shoes, you will know how Christ will react to your situations.

The Bible gave us a remedy for falling back to flesh; and that remedy is being led by the spirit of God always.

Galatians 5:16 “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” KJV.

When you are led by the spirit of God, you will not be moved by the desire of the flesh, you will not boast in sin and your past again.

Dear reader, I am glad you are blessed today. Have no confidence in the flesh, rather have confidence in Jesus and He will make your ways plain. Always be led by His Spirit, through this you will have no confidence in sin anymore. God bless you.

Prayer: Lord Jesus help me put my confidence in you and give me victory over every confidence I have in the flesh.
